Set in the Deep South of 1948, before the civil rights movement, the drama follows Daisy Werthan, a wealthy widow. Having recently demolished a car, Daisy is informed by her son, Boolie, he has hired a chauffeur to safely transport her. Filling the position is a thoughtful African American man, Hoke. Despite initial tensions between Miss Daisy and Hoke, the two grow closer and co-dependent. The times and circumstances require their friendship to remain private, though.
