Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Services annual meeting

Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Services gathered for its 104th annual meeting Tuesday to celebrate individual and collective achievements in the community and review the accomplishments of the organization.

The annual Outstanding Citizenship Award was presented to Keith Hodkinson of Senecacountyradio.com.

Hodkinson has been involved with Tiffin Rotary Club, Tiffin Rotary Club Foundation, Rotary Club District, Ritz Theatre Board, Heritage Festival Board, Mercy Hospital Advisory Board, Tiffin City Schools Advisory Board, Friends of the Tiffin Bark Park and has served as president on several of these boards.

Among many different achievements, Hodkinson was a driving force behind the Rotary Technology Initiative where the club purchased 30 iPads and charging units for the Tiffin Middle School. He also helped to develop the Tiffin Rotary Community Auction, which has raised more than $750,000 over the past 33 years.

The Outstanding Citizenship Award honors an individual who has proven to be outstanding among their peers in the areas of professional competence, civic contribution and personal qualities.

The annual Women’s Career Excellence Award was awarded to Deborah Tiell of Tiell Financial Group.

Tiell has shown commitment to her community, hosting an annual shred day and ice cream social and an annual Easter egg hunt. She is a past president and board member of Financial Assistance For Cancer Treatment, is involved at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bascom, is a member of Tiffin Y-Wives and serves on the ProMedica Foundation Board.

She founded Tiell Financial Group by going door-to-door in rural Seneca County to meet with and educate people about various financial products. She is a female trail-blazer in a field that was strongly dominated by men and has been a registered financial representative for more than 25 years.

The Women’s Career Excellence Award was given to a woman who provides valuable service by devoting time to improve the quality of life for others; demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in her profession; and assists women in reaching their leadership potential.

The keynote speaker was Melinda Huntley, executive director of the Ohio Travel Association.

Sewing group to make shawls

Members of the Sit & Stitch group are to make shawls in the month of November during Shawl-Along. Upcoming programs are 1:30-3:30 p.m. today and Nov. 11 in the Junior Home Room of Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, 77 Jefferson St.

Story time event for preschoolers

Preschool story time program is to take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday and Nov. 13 in the Frost Kalnow Room of Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, 77 Jefferson St.

Toddler event to feature stories

Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to host Toddler Tales at 10 a.m. Thursday and Nov. 15 in the Frost Kalnow Room of the library, 77 Jefferson St.

The program is developed for children one and half years old to three years old. It is an interactive program that encourages movement through rhymes, stories, songs and dancing.

Early literacy program to meet at T-SPL

Tiffin-Seneca Public Library’s Bouncing Babies program is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday and Nov. 15 in the Frost Kalnow Room of the library, 77 Jefferson St.

The interactive program features rhymes, songs, stories and lapsit fun for babies and caregivers ages birth to 18 months old.

Sam Quinones, author of “Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic,” is to give a presentation as part of Tiffin-Seneca Public Library’s Foundation Speakers series.

Library friends group to gather

Friends of the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to have its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 in the Frost Kalnow Room of the library, 77 Jefferson St.

The meeting is to feature a program by Amy Berger, who is to talk about geological wonders of the world and share her travel experiences.

The program is to be preceded by the business meeting. Library Director Matthew Ross is to give a state of the library and elections of officers is to take place.
