Gospel singing planned for tonight, next weekend
Freewill Baptist Church, 129 Eighth Ave., Tiffin, plans to host gospel singing at 6 p.m. today. For details, call (419) 448-0566.
The 14th annual Gospel Harvest Fest is set for 1-7 p.m. Oct. 31 at The Salvation Army, 505 E. Market St. The fest is to feature HeartSong, Donna Sue, Jake Reel, Jericho Road, Sandi & Kaylene, One Voice, Jimmy Potridge, Paula Barron, The Knickerbockers, Chris Baldwin, Cornerstone Gospel, Crimson Stream, Ed & Deb Damphouse and The Salvation Army Timbrels.
Donna Sue is to perform at 10:45 a.m. Nov. 1 at First Church of the Nazarene, 777 E. TR 201.
Jericho Road is to perform at 11 a.m. Nov. 1 at The Salvation Army, 505 E. Market St.
Program to note 35th anniversary
of church’s organ Sunday afternoon
First Lutheran Church, 300 Melmore St., is to present a free program at 4 p.m. Sunday to celebrate “Reformation in the 21st Century.” The church plans to celebrate the 35th anniversary of its Schantz organ and use technology to enhance the program.
The event is to feature organist and composer Matthew H. Corl of Lakeland, Florida, as well as a mass choir with members of Lutheran churches in northwest Ohio as participants. Corl is to present two organ and piano pieces written for this occasion. He and Curtis L. King, organist at First Lutheran, are to present these pieces.
Corl has been associate director of music and organist at First United Methodist Church in Lakeland since 1987.
Christian country singers to perform Sunday evening
The Tacketts, Christian country singing performers from Defiance, are to present a free program at 7 p.m. Sunday at West Independence United Methodist Church. The duo is comprised of Sarah Evans Tackett and Jeff Tackett. She is a former Miss Ohio and talent award winner, and a featured speaker, master of ceremonies and performer for special events and women’s conferences. They have sung with Jason Crabb from the Bill Gaither Homecoming.

Risingsun church to host dinner Tuesday
St. Paul United Methodist Church in Risingsun plans to host a community dinner 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday. The menu is to include turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied carrots, green beans, a salad bar, dessert and beverages.
Latin Mass planned for 2 p.m. Sunday
at St. Joseph
With the permission of Pope Benedict XVI, a wider use of the Latin mass is available for Roman Catholics throughout the world. The Tridentine Latin mass dates back to the 1500s and the Council of Trent.
The Tridentine laton mass – or the “Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite” – is to be celebrated by Father Joseph Szybka, pastor of St. Joseph Church, at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church at 36 Melmore St.
The Mass would fulfill the Sunday obligation for Catholics. Latin-English missalettes are to be available to help those who attend follow and participate in the Mass. Refreshments and an informal opportunity for questions about the he Upper Room of St. Joseph Activity Center.
Harvest dinner to welcome pastor, youth director to West Independence
A free Welcome Harvest Dinner is set for 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at West Independence United Methodist Church, 22876 US 224, Fostoria, in the Family Life Center.
The church plans to welcome and introduce to the community Pastor Mark Weatherman and his wife, Debbi, along with Youth Director Michael Authenreith and his wife, Avery. The Weathermans moved to West Independence from Milford First UMC near Cincinnati. The pastor has been in full-time ministry for 10 years.
The Authenreiths recently married and relocated from the Springfield area. They are graduates of Malone College.
The dinner is to feature a traditional holiday meal of roast turkey, gravy, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, bread, pie, cookies and beverages. The buffet-style dinner is open to anyone in the extended West Independence community.
