CAREY — One person died and another was seriously injured due to falling from the back of a truck on CR 59 Friday night.

At 8:30 p.m., a person reported a single-vehicle accident in which two people who had been on the tailgate fell out of the back of a truck, a Seneca County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.

Sgt. Jordan Schwochow of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said the truck was driving west on CR 59. At least two people were on the truck’s bed, and the truck accelerated, he said.

“Two people fell off,” he said.

One person died at the scene, and one was flown by Life Flight from the scene with serious injuries, he said.

Two Life Flight helicopters had been summoned.

The identities of those involved were not available Friday night.

Schwochow said alcohol was believed to be involved.

Personnel from NBS EMS District, NBS Joint Fire District, Bascom EMS, the county’s Echo unit, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and Seneca County Coroner’s Office assisted.
