Follow the adventures of ‘Peter and Wendy’ at The Ritz

A group of campers rehearse their parts this week during The Ritz Theatre Summer Camp’s production of “Peter and Wendy.”

Come along with beloved characters Peter and Wendy as The Ritz Theatre hosts the 21st annual summer theater camps.

The Ritz Theatre, with directors Hannah Chism and Brittni D’Angelo from Missoula Children’s Theatre, Missoula, Montana, are to present “Peter and Wendy.”

Performances are scheduled 7 p.m. Friday and June 21 and 2 p.m. Saturday and June 22 at The Ritz, 30 S. Washington St.

Monday of each week, campers in grades 1-12 were divided by age, auditioned and assigned parts. Throughout the week, they are to take part in “age-appropriate workshops” when they are not rehearsing.

Missoula also provides original music and scripts.

This year’s workshops have a Scottish theme because the writer of “Peter Pan,” J.M. Barrie, of Scottish descent, Dianne Pytel, Ritz education coordinator, said.

Children will be playing Scottish games and a bagpipe player will be on site to play.

Pytel said she owes a lot to Camp Chairman Chris Joyce for coming up with a lot of the camp workshop ideas.

“I love how her brain works,” Pytel said. “These camps are just so special.”

Pytel said children this year come from not just Tiffin, but Fremont, Clyde, Findlay, Alvada, New Riegel, Bloomville, Vermilion, Grand Rapids, Columbus and Beaver Creek.

Tickets cost $7 for adults and $4 for children.
