Men charged with retaining stolen property

Two men were charged after an electrical contractor reported stolen copper wire.

Chad A. Dayton, 32, of Fostoria, and Kory L. Schmidt, 35, of Helena, were charged with retaining stolen property, a fifth-degree felony, according to court records.

Besco Inc., an electrical contractor for American Electric Power, had report the theft of hundreds of pounds of copper wire, valued at $1,800, from the South Sandusky Street substation, according to Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court records.

The wire weighed nearly 300 pounds and had been sold to Danner’s Towing & Recycling, Sycamore, they state.
