Attica income tax increase discussed

ATTICA — Attica fiscal officer Michelle Gullet informed council Thursday night that the Regional Income Tax Authority is to be attending the July 25 meeting but has requested the village provide them with information on the businesses, employees and payroll income to help determine how much would be generated if the village institutes a 1% income tax.

Gullet also reported a cash balance of $1,088,516.95 in all accounts while the village has a debt service balance of $4,761,769.44 remaining.

Village Administrator Greg Martin stated cold patching has been done but residents are to call the village office if holes have been missed. He reported a recent storm line repair and a drop in water pressure throughout the village. After a tour of the community, finding no obvious cause, pressure returned to normal.

Martin said Musco Electric from Iowa would be repairing the Myers Park ball field lights July 24. They are the original installer of the lights.

After approaching the Attica-Venice Cemetery board about the condition of the Unknown Soldier Monument and benches, council was informed that the American Legion is responsible for its upkeep.

Other action taken:

• Approved paying the Public Entity Pool insurance premium of $35,953 which is $2,000 less than last year with the addition of the Solar Sonic unit.

• Voted to change August meeting dates to Aug. 15 and Aug. 29.

The next council meeting is to be 7:30 p.m. July 25.
