George F. Harper

George F. Harper, 84, formerly of rural Sycamore, died at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.

He was born Oct. 8, 1932, in Wyandot County, to Frank and Mabel (Kuenzli) Harper. He married Mallie (Cook) Harper, they were married 45 years and later divorced.

Surviving are four children, Leatra (Dr. Steve Jansto) Harper of Grand Rapids, Walter Allen Harper of Baxley, Georgia, Anne Harper of Tiffin and Roy Douglas Harper of Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin; five grandchildren, Leslie Harper, Eric Focht, Tiffany Washburn, Miranda Brooks and Sarah Harper; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie (Dr. Cal) Williams of Albion, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Evelyn Ray; and a brother who was stillborn.

George was a farmer, factory worker, gun dealer and an auctioneer. He was a graduate of Sycamore High School, member of Sycamore United Methodist Church, member of Tiffin Moose Lodge No. 846, Upper Sandusky Elks Lodge No. 83 and a social member of Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250.

For hobbies, he loved to ride motorcycles and horses, was a true outdoorsmen loving to hunt deer in West Virginia and take pictures of them, loved karaoke, playing cards, especially euchre, and loved old tractors.

A funeral for George will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, 201 W. Saffel Ave., Sycamore, with the Rev. Rick Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, west of Sycamore.

Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
