Mary Ellen Sielicki

Mary Ellen Sielicki, 65, a former Tiffin resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at the University of Toledo Medical Center following complications from pneumonia.

Mary Ellen was born Jan. 8, 1952, in Lafayette, to Bill and Mildred Martin, youngest of three sisters. Her marriage to Bruce Williams ended in divorce. She married Jim Sielicki Oct. 2, 1982, in Ada, after a whirlwind courtship.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; a sister, Beverly (William) Irwin of Springfield; and two granddaughters, Hallie Williams and Hannah Mason Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Matthew Alan Williams; and her sister, Sue (Lynn) Vogt.

She was a 1974 graduate of Ohio Northern University, majoring in English and speech. Mary Ellen worked in nursing homes and owned an adult group home, she opened Victorian Manor Assisted Living in Toledo in 1994 and operated it for nearly 14 years. Her positive attitude and enthusiasm for helping people prompted one of her OSU instructors in Tiffin to remark in a recommendation that Mary Ellen was “one of the most compassionate, loving, caring human beings that you will ever come in contact with.”

She was office and fiscal manager 1980 to 1983 for the Hardin County Council on Aging in Kenton, where she met her future husband, Jim Sielicki. At San-Mar Pharmacy in Tiffin, she was assistant manager of its home health care products division. She was board president of the Seneca County chapter of American Cancer Society and interim executive director until she and Jim moved to Toledo. She was a member of the Ohio Eastern Stars and served Tiffin Chapter 189 as worthy matron in 1988 and 1992, and deputy grand matron in 1991.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Toledo. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery will be private.

Visitation will begin an hour before her Mass in the church narthex and at 2 p.m. a wake will follow at Manhattan’s, 1516 Adams St., Toledo.

Arrangements were handled by the Cremation Society of Toledo.
