Library offers varied adult reader resources
Would you like a recommendation for a book to read? Want to know the next book in a series? Are you looking for a way to keep track of what you read?
For help with any of these questions, come visit Tiffin-Seneca Public Library’s new Reader Resources area.
Our staff has compiled a binder with information and websites to help you out. Book groups will find pamphlets with suggestions for future selections and online sites where they can find discussion questions.
If you need help finding the next book in a series or want to keep track of the books you are reading, there are lists of websites you can use.
For those interested in reading books recommended by librarians, look no further than the Library Reads lists. Each month, library staff from all over the country nominate and vote on the top 10 new books coming out. All of the 2018 lists are available, and new lists will be added as they are released.
The resource binder also has lists of popular authors in each genre to help you discover a new author.
There is also information about using the library’s online catalog or the BookMyne app to locate items and place holds on materials. BookMyne is a free app you can download to a mobile device. It is linked to the library catalog, and you can use it to place holds, renew items and review activity on your account.
On the Reader Resources shelf, you will find a copy of Book Riot’s 2019 Read Harder challenge, which is a list of 24 book categories to read during the year that are different formats, genres and authors than you might normally read.
This year, PBS presented a show called The Great American Read which allowed people to vote for their favorite book or series based on a list of 100 titles. We have a list of the winner and other top 10 selections, and you can pick up a copy of all 100 titles to keep track of those you have read.
The Readers Resources area also has a copy of the The New York Times Best of 2018 list as well as reading lists that address current events and social issues.
If you are still searching for a good read, Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is having A Gathering of Readers tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Frost Kalnow Room. Whether you are part of a book group or just enjoy books, you are invited to come for an evening to celebrate reading. Plan to share the title of the book that is your favorite of this year. We also will be having a white elephant book exchange. Wrap a book from home and bring it to the gathering, and you will leave with a new book to enjoy. Additionally, a lucky participant will receive a special door prize. Light refreshments will be served.
Finally, if you are having trouble locating items in the library or have questions about any of these resources, stop by the Information Desk. Our staff would love to help you find your next great read.
