Online resources offer wealth of info

Tiffin-Seneca Public Library has access to many online resources that can help you do or learn new things. All are accessible from the library website, many through the Ohio Web Library, an online collection of resources free to use for all Ohio residents.

Chilton Auto Repair is a source that can help you fix your vehicle with diagnostics, maintenance schedules, wiring diagrams and step-by-step repair procedures. Enter your car’s year, make and model, and you will be able to see all of the Chilton books related to that vehicle. For instance, if your 2012 Subaru Forester’s rear brake pads need replacing, you can find instructions and a diagram for removing and installing rear brake pads. Chilton also offers Automobile Service Excellence test prep quizzes to help prepare you for professional certification exams in automotive repair and service.

Do you need to fix a leaky faucet? Are you looking for a new crochet pattern? Two other resources provide materials for do-it-yourself and how-to projects. The Home Improvement Reference Center contains full-text content from 130 books and 40 home improvement magazines and nearly 100 videos of popular home repair projects. The Hobbies and Crafts Reference Center has almost 2,000 full-text books and leading hobby and crafts magazines. It also includes over 720 instructional videos and 10,000 recipes. Both sites have a robust, easy-to-use interface so you can quickly find the information you need.

If you are interested in learning a new language, Transparent Language Online has over 100 languages to choose from. It also includes ESL courses for learning English from over 25 other languages. The lessons allow users to practice listening, reading, speaking and writing a new language. You can create an account to track your progress in the series of lessons and the number of vocabulary words you have learned.

To access the Ohio Web Library, go to the library website at www.tiffinsenecalibrary.org and select “Find Information” at the top of the page. In the dropdown menu, click on “Databases.” Scroll down to Ohio Web Library and click on the logo. Once you are at the site, you can click on the resource you want to access. If you are inside the library, you will not need to do anything to enter the site. However, if you are outside the library, you will need your library card number and personal identification number. If you do not know your PIN, please contact the library.

Another useful resource is Newspaper Archive Ohio. It is a valuable tool for researching family histories as it provides access to newspapers from across Ohio that have been digitized and put online. You can search for a person’s name to find articles about him or her. Whatever you search for will be highlighted on the newspaper page. Additionally, you can clip articles and download them to your computer. Newspaper Archive Ohio is provided through a donation from the Seneca County Genealogical Society.

These are only a handful of resources available through the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library. If you need help using these or other resources, please come to the Information Desk for assistance, call the library at (419) 447-3751 or visit our website at www.tiffin
