Singles sweep gets Frazee first win against Shelby

SHELBY — Levi Malone got a bit of redemption and coach Aaron Frazee picked up his first career win against Shelby in Upper Sandusky’s 3-2 victory Wednesday.

All three wins for the Rams (9-2) came in singles play.

Malone beat Ryan Stahl 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Landon Cotto-Ramos downed Jacob Billheimer 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, and Justin Blackburn defeated Ty Cox 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.

“The first singles match was one we had circled on the schedule because Levi and Stahl played a great match against each other last year,” Frazee said. “Both are really good athletes so we are thrilled that Levi was able to avenge his loss from last year.

“It’s always tough to beat Shelby. It’s my first time beating them and to know we did it with three singles wins says a lot about the practice our kids have put in,” he said. “Levi, Landon, and Justin all are playing really well right now.”

Whippets Nolan Stahl and Austin Means overpowered Grant Bower and Anson Hill 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Isaiah Hicks and Alex Gribble held off Nolan Mewhorter and Kyle Snowden 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2.
